About My Work

Like medieval reliquaries holding precious religious relics, these pieces of recycled steel protect the colorful abstract enamels. Work done in a style basic and savage, without the refinements of a modern world, appealing directly to our primitive emotions.

My plans for these enamels change continually as I deal with the uncertainty of the flame. Abstracts developing as the colors wrap around each other, covering or exposing layers below. Working with the randomness of a free-hand torch is an exciting element in the creation of each unique piece.

The black powder-coated pieces look incredible on any dark apparel. The deep black of the chain disappears, and the colorful enamel work becomes a shining focal point. The pieces with the rust patina are warm, with many different subtle shades complementing a wide array of looks and colors. The process of rusting gives each piece a unique result.

Pieces with a rust patina have a bumpy, smooth texture, as do the pieces with the baked-on powder coating. Each one of these steel pieces will continue to wear away with time, adding to its story.
